I am back!
I really want to see you all sometime over the holidays, so would like to suggest we all go out to the cinema on Sunday. Going out for a night out still may not be everyones cup of tea so the cinema is always good. Maybe Boswells or something first then film or something. Yes Man looks like a pretty good film and is showing at 1530. Anyone up for it?
It would be great if we could all do this as for the majority of this holiday season I will not be in this country, well come to think of it this year I am hardly at home in the shire. This holiday I will be away 23-30 & 31-07 and shall be returning to uni around the 10th so my meeting and catching up period is unfortunately very brief and with not being able to drive while I am home it makes it even harder. :(
On better news, even though my house it not decorated for christmas, just driving down the street made me actually feel like it was christmas. Before, it did not. :)

Well it has been almost a week now and still only half way though freshers! This week has been good, meeting the people who are living around me and some people on my course. The majority of people around me are 20ish and many smoke heavily and party hard most nights, but there are those more here to have a good time with a few nights off to recover from the previous. :) Everyone is really friendly and everyone has no problem letting each other in their flats for a drink or two. I am in a flat of 4, with an empty room so far. I am living with Tiff who is from Kingston, 20, up for a laugh and extremely funny but also caring. Then we have Becca from near Swansea, 18, who is also up for a night out with other friends on campus, she is although missing home quite a bit. Our kitchen and living area is then huge with a nice hallway with the ability to talk loudly and speak to each other form our rooms. :) Food wise the most I have cooked is fish fingers and chips, and then spaghetti and then noodles given at freshers fair (tesco value - warning taste shit). My room is good with plenty of storage, although it is already messy! In the morning the sun comes right though my window and warms the room nicely which is great. Have however lost account of how much money has been spent this week, will starting keeping a record of it on Monday, or after freshers.

Things over here are so cheap though, I just cant believe it, probably the most shocking price is the cost of a taxi from campus late at night to town (about 20mins) for only £6! That then makes it £1.50 each - bargin!! Anyway to sum things up, having a great time and making some really good friends!

The time has come! We are now starting to separate along our own paths, each with a very different route. But that doesn’t mean that we have to lose touch with each other!
I think a great way in which we can keep in touch with each other is to send a postcard or photo, with a message on to each other every now and then (once a month or so). We will then have postcards/photos to look at and hold with personal meaningful messages on, which could end up being on your wall or something. It will be something that I imagine will bring a smile to your face when opening your post box, bring back memories and be a touch of home at the same time.
If you would like to be part of this, just leave a comment with your address as we have no owls.
My address is: B20d Opal 1 Newport Usk Way Newport NP20 2BS

This time next week we shall be somewhere much hotter :)
You may know that after the exams I completely gutted my bedroom, and well I never got round to do my wardrobe. Well this evening I have. And I never knew I had so many clothes! 14 trousers 19 long sleeve tops 31 t-shirts 7 Shorts 8 Hooded tops 4 Pairs of Pjs 4 Swimming shorts 2 Lab coats 4 Long sleeve shirts 4 Other shirts 2 Lifeguard tops 1 Lifeguard shorts 2 White swim school t-shirts 1 Red Swim School top 1 Rookie Lifeguard top 7 Ties 6 Other Jackets/Coats Enough underwear for over 2 weeks Please get me to stop if I consider buying anymore trousers, I know understand why my parents say I don’t need more. I have to say that I am quite amazed. Wow!
Over the next few days I shall be going into the travel agents to get the tickets and stuff. But before we can even get on a plane, we need to get to the airport! Going to the airport my mum (or dad) and Richard's dad will be taking us, but on the way home we only have my mum (or dad) - We need another parent! Once I have tickets and we know who is driving, I shall then announce time arrangements and a timetable (of sorts) of the journey there and back.
I think I shall be posting all the information onto here, but I need to ensure you are all reading this. So could we please have a roll call and post a comment. Thank you. :)

Almost two weeks to go. :)
But before then we have Wanted comming out at the cinema tomorrow (Wednesday 25th). If you want to come along meet at about 20:15 for the 20:30 showing. Looks to be a promising film.
Concerning transport to and from the airport, there were a few people who said their parents could but they were away as they were unable to ask. We another parent to do both ways, which doesn't nessercarily be the same parent.
I think we need to start thinking and actually planning what we want to do over the next 14 weeks. Shall I start the ball rolling with a theme park trip? I propose either the 5th or 12th of August and to Thorpe park? (Alton Towers would have been a nice change, but it would take 3hrs to drive, then at the end of a long day you still have to drive back.)

6:20 pm - Holiday (9th-16th)
|
Three weeks to go. :)
Essential Checklist: Passport Travel Insurance EHIC Card Euros
Also important is suntan lotion and other holiday necessities.
As we take off at 1310, we need to aim to be there around 1030. This could be done by coach. On the way home we land at 2230, with the last coach at 2315. This is not realistic as if we are delayed for any reason we would have to wait until 0100. The price of the coach is £22 single and £32 return. This would have been okayish if on the way home we knew we could get home, although we would still need lifts to and from oxford. The ideal scenario would be taken to and from the airport directly, which would only cost about £15 each both ways to cover fuel costs. My parents are happy to use their car (7 seater thing) there and back, but we can’t all fit in with luggage, we need another parent who is willing to drive even if it is a different one each way – any offers?

With only a week left, the Summer is quickly approaching.
But if we want to meet up and organise trips to various places we need to organise a day in which none of us arrange work. May I sugest that this day would be Tuesday? If this doesn't happen now, we will all sort out work everyday and then we will ne unable to meet up and it will be even more impoosible to organise things.
What do we want to do over the summer anyway? Here are some initial ideas: Thorpe Park/Alton Towers Coral Reef (We did this last year, and although it was good it doesnt last very long) Day trip to the beach
And I personaly want to go to Disneyland Paris during the end of the holidays in September when it gets really cheap. I know this is not everyones cup of tea but if you want to come you are invited.
Any other ideas?

School is nearly over! It is comming round so quickly, although I am looking forward to the summer, we only have two more months of school and in three months we finish!
Woah it has all gone so fast. :(
My University decision is made: Bristol's ABB offer as my firm and Southampton's BBB offer as my insurance. It is going to be a blast! I will be looking to go on more open days I think to bristol to look more around all the Halls of Residences, student union, swimming pools, and the city itself.
And our holiday! I will be starting to collect the remaining money. Ideally, it would be good to have the money before half term. The total due is £312. This can be cash or cheque payable to me. Thank you.
Oh so we are pack for half a week, then a full week, then a week off (yay) and then the following week I am going to be on a Swimming teachers course so I can be a proper swim teacher! :) Can't wait, not only will I have the opportunity to get paid £8 an hour, but also means I am more employable when I go to uni. :D
I love people. They make me smile. :)

"I am delighted to be able to tell you that I intend asking UCAS to make you a conditional offer for our F105 MSci Chemistry with Industrial Experience program. Unfortunatly, UCAS will not allow me, as an admissions tutor, to inform you of the precise details of the offer. It may, however, help you to know that, in general, we expect applicants to achieve grades ABB or equivalent at A level"
Have no idea what the offer is going to be then.

Wishes for all:
- Be more social.
- Be willing to do more different things.
- Actually participate in things you do not normally do.
- Get out of the house other than for work or school during the evenings, at least once a week (especially at the weekends).
- Live life and experience it before you regret it.
NB: Going to the pub does not have to mean the consumption of alcohol is compulsory or expected, they are good places to socialise. New friends are not a bad thing, embrace them and share friendship, one can never have enough friends.

Found a review - worth a read. Seems like we can go and rave in neighbouring hotels too :D
After spending 6 months of research online for the best holiday places in Fuerteventura, Costa Calma, I, and my boyfriend decided to go to Monica Beach which seemed to be the one had everything - all inclusive programme, near the beach and great facilities.
We read all the reviews in hotels in Costa Calma and Monica Beach had high ratings and good feedbacks on Holiday Watchdog and other similar websites.
We stayed at Sunrise Monica Beach Hotel for 15 nights and enjoyed our stay a great deal. Definitely value for money if you go for all inclusive.
Room and facilities:
The room was basic as 3* standard but the entire hotel is quiet during the night so guarantee a good night sleep - we chose a garden-view room and glad we did - as if we had chosen the sea view rooms we would have ended up too close to the main pool, and during the day and night there were loads of people around, we might have not enjoyed our stay.
When booking the hotel, specify Garden view rooms on the ground floor, as it gets too hot in the rooms on 1st floor.
Our room was big enough for 2, had a lovely patio facing the garden. Lots of German programmes on TV, so we watched BBC and CNN every day...
Being in a hot country unfortunately you will see some cockroaches, flies, and lizards in your room but the room is cleaned daily. I am a bit obsessed with cleaning so I brought my own cleaning stuff just in case the room was not clean. If you can, get one of these cleaning wipes they will become quite handy.
The hotel facilities - bars and pools were really good and clean, and great for families as entertainers were there near the main pool with music, dance, and games.
We loved the entire gardens and surroundings of the hotel - unlike other nearby hotels, apart from rooms on the main building, Monica Beach Hotel has rooms outside so it feels like you are living there in a block of flats but in a tropical island. Every passage, garden, plant and everything were well maintained.
All inclusive guests could use sister hotels facilities as well, so we went to the next door 4* Crystal Beach Hotel. We were treated in the same way as Crystal Beach Hotel's guests and you can also use the pools in other Sunrise Beach Hotels too.
Other facilities - 2 PCs: €8 per hour Gaming areas: pool tables, table tennis, arcade types of games and PlayStation (which most of the time out of order) entertainment area in basement and basement bar.
Every day the programme is displayed in the main restaurant and catered for children, family, or adults. Its great fun and well organised. Sports facilities were also great - tennis courts, mini golf, gym, sauna, massage (some of the services were chargeable) you can hire tennis equipments €1.50 each.
Food & Drink:
We were given wristbands which indicated all inclusive programmes. You have to wear the bands at all times until you check out, a bit annoying that you have something on your wrist even sunbathing but if you take it off, you won't get any food and drink.
All inclusive was the best choice - there are shops like a supermarket but we found food and drink were very expensive outside the hotel. We made the most of all inclusive plans - breakfast, snacks at the bar, (sandwiches, cakes, ice cream) lunch and dinner.
Fresh food and wide range of choice for all meals, the chef cooks fresh veg, fish, or meat for every lunch and dinner. Fuerteventura has a large German tourism market hence the food can be catered for them too. Buffet style and you can eat & drink as much as you like - pasta, meat, fish, fresh bread, fruit, desserts, salad, etc.
For dinner, Monica Beach Hotel guests can use the 4* Crystal Beach Hotel's restaurant, Capriccio - you book it at Reception at least 1 day in advance. Food is different every 2 days, so we booked Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. As part of all inclusive we only had to pay for the drink consumption.
Food was amazing and service was great as well, so highly recommended to book the restaurant. We also went to the bars in other Sunrise Beach Hotels. Again as part of all inclusive plans we were able to enjoy the same drinks as Monica Beach Hotel bars.
Location:
Monica Beach has one of the best locations - close to all the local shops, all walking distances maximum 5 - 10 minutes, 2 minutes to the beach. Very quiet, safe (security guy walking around the area during the night) and close to the public transports. Costa Calma is the best sandy and clean, well maintained beach in Fuerteventura. Also best in terms of safety, as Lifeguards will be there between 8:30am to 6pm.
Staff:
Amazing - every single person in Reception, Restaurant, and Bars speak fluent English, Spanish, and German. They are friendly and helpful. Room attendants and Maintenance staff didn't speak much English but they were all friendly.
Monica Beach is great for families, although it was good for us, we would stay at Crystal Beach if we went back next time - as a couple we feel that Crystal Beach or other 4* hotels are more suitable.
Great Late Deals:
If only I had known this website before booking the flight separately - it is one of the best holiday websites for Spain and definitely for Fuerteventura. They offered the best available price for all inclusive for Monica Beach and it was cheaper to speak to them than booking it online. They were helpful and explained all the facilities and all inclusive plans over the phone. Highly recommended!
